RINGWOOD CHAMBER NEWS 2006

Little Local Heroes

Little Local Heroes
A small child slowly stepped on to the stage clutching her bear. The large man behind the podium towered above her yet she dared to look up. He gently leaned forward to bestow the medal on her. She softly lifted up 'Bertie Bear' to him. With a huge smile, the man placed the blue ribbon around the bear's neck. After all, it was 'Bertie' who had kept her safe that day.
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and finding good homes for them is all in a day's work for Susie James, the inspiration that is Kingston Bears. Formerly in the Arcade, Market Place, the bears have found a new residency at Heavenly Creations, 43 Christchurch Road.
Susie first began making bears when a friend was in hospital and she wanted to give them something special. Twenty five years later and Susie is still making bears, each of them unique in their design. All of Susie's bears are made with genuine German mohair which is in keeping with the traditional style of manufacture and dressed in material from genuine antique textiles. More...

Furlong Reindeer Parade

Furlong Reindeer Parade
Once again Santa and his reindeer will be descending on the Furlong, parking his sleigh just outside Frampton's Mill while the traffic warden is busy elsewhere. The festivities start at 6.00pm and continue around the town until 8.30pm when all the good little boys and girls will have discovered that there really is a Mr. Claus.
Our favourites, Bournemouth Carnival Band will be disguising themselves once again as Spider-Men to follow the Green Goblin and ensure he behaves on the night. With plenty of shops open for the night there will be the annual Chamber Fancy Dress competition for the shopkeepers and the cunningly clever Chamber Odd Man Out shop window competition. If you see any mobsters and their molls sneaking about with suspicious violin cases, Italy and Italians is the theme for this Christmas Event of the Year. The Italian Market, new for Ringwood, will also be holed up in the Market Place so this really is an offer you dare not refuse!

Moving With The Times

Moving With The Times
Lets Accommodate now offer holiday and long term lets and sales on overseas properties.
Barbara Kennar, proprietor commented “It seemed to us to be a logical extension of the service we provide to our clients for rental property locally. Whilst package holidays are very popular, more and more people are booking their holidays 'a la carte' and wanting to find a holiday apartment or villa to rent: others may be looking for a long term let, say for 3 to 6 months, prior to moving abroad to work or retire.” More...

Barley Boasting

Barley B(oast)ing
How many farmers are able to boast that the barley they grow is used to brew the beer that is served in their local pub? John Chappell from Bishops Court Farm in Shapwick, Dorset can claim just that as his barley is used by Ringwood Brewery to brew their award-winning beers and they supply his local, the Anchor at Shapwick. The barley that John grows is Maris Otter which has the perfect qualities needed for brewing beer. Once the barley has been harvested, it is taken to Warminster Maltings where it is converted into malt, then to Ringwood Brewery who use it to brew the beer and then it is delivered to the Anchor at Shapwick. Big Little Theatre School

Not To Be Missed
Big Little Theatre School, the south's most prestigious acting and musical theatre school, presents the musical 'Children of Eden' at Layard Theatre, Canford School Wednesday 15th to Saturday 18th February 2006 at 7.30pm and Saturday 18th February 2006 at 2.30pm.
If there is one thing not to be missed this half term it's the spectacular and moving production of the musical 'Children of Eden'. From Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin and the new American hit musical Wicked) and John Caird (co-director of Les Miserables) 'Children of Eden' is freely based on the first nine chapters of the book of Genesis with a joyous, inspirational and moving look at the Creation, the stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel and finally Noah and his family. The melodic, energetic score is a mix of pop, folk, rock, gospel, Broadway and hugely powerful choral moments. It is a show about parenting and the hardest part of love... letting go. More...
